As we continue celebrating National Women’s Small Business Month, we’re excited to feature Laura Longie and Erika Kellen, owners of The Wine Lounge in downtown Hutchinson!
For the past 2.5 years, Laura and Erika have been sharing their love of wine with the community. Their inspiration for opening The Wine Lounge came from wanting to introduce the unique self-serve wine machine concept to Hutchinson while creating a comfortable place for people to gather and enjoy a variety of wines.
The Wine Lounge features a wide assortment of wines from small, family-owned wineries around the world. Guests can also enjoy other beverages, including their newest addition, the Old Fashioned, along with charcuterie boards, small bites to share, flatbreads, and locally made cheesecakes.
One of the things Laura and Erika enjoy most about owning a business in Hutchinson is the support they’ve received from their customers and fellow local businesses. They’ve learned that starting a business takes a lot of time and energy, but keeping it going requires just as much dedication. That experience has made them appreciate the support of the community even more.
They’re especially proud of the experience they’ve created for their customers, from the welcoming atmosphere to the selection of wines that give guests an opportunity to try something new.
Looking ahead, Laura and Erika hope to continue growing their craft cocktail offerings, enhancing their outdoor space, and adapting to their customers’ needs. They also have their sights set on continued growth, with the possibility of opening a second location in the future.
Their advice to other women considering starting or growing a business is simple: “Don’t be afraid to take risks, there is no room for regrets in life.”
