For Dr. Fallon Theis, opening her own dental practice in her hometown of Hutchinson was something she had thought about for years. After six years of practicing dentistry, she finally asked herself, “What’s stopping me from doing this on my own?”
With encouragement from her husband, Spencer, she decided to take the leap. Just over two years ago, Theis Family Dental opened its doors in downtown Hutchinson, starting with zero patients and a vision of creating a welcoming, comfortable place for families to receive dental care.
Today, Fallon leads a small team that includes a patient care coordinator, dental assistant, and four registered dental hygienists. Her practice welcomes patients of all ages, and she takes pride in the personal relationships they build along the way.
As someone born and raised in Hutchinson, Fallon says caring for the community she grew up in has been especially rewarding. She’s experienced many full-circle moments with patients and appreciates the opportunity to own a business in the heart of downtown.

Owning her own practice has also given Fallon more flexibility to balance her career and family life. Being a mom is incredibly important to her, and setting her own schedule allows her to be there for her children’s activities and spend more time with them.
Of course, running a small business means wearing many hats! Fallon jokes that on any given day she might be the boss, janitor, groundskeeper, HR person, or even helping at the front desk. But at the end of the day, she says the best part is still getting to be the dentist.
When asked what she’s most proud of, Fallon doesn’t hesitate to recognize her staff.
“My team means the world to me. They all do an amazing job in their respective roles. I couldn’t ask for a better group of women to work with.”
Looking ahead, Fallon hopes to eventually add more space to the practice, but she has no desire to become a large dental office. She loves the close-knit atmosphere her team has created and wants to preserve the personal experience her patients receive.
Her long-term goal is to make Theis Family Dental a lasting part of the Hutchinson community, caring for generations of local families.
Fallon’s advice to other women considering starting or growing a business is to not let fear of the unknown hold them back. She acknowledges that taking the leap can be overwhelming and filled with uncertainty and second-guessing, but encourages women to trust themselves and the process. She believes that with hard work, dedication, and a clear vision, those dreams can become reality.
“If you truly want it, you can absolutely get it.”
She also stresses the importance of surrounding yourself with a strong team of people who believe in your goals, including trusted professionals such as an accountant, lawyer, lender, contractor, and financial advisor. Fallon is grateful for the many people who helped make her dream a reality and continue to support her as a business owner.
