Since opening our doors in 1886, a lot has changed in our community, in banking and in the way we serve our customers. But through all those years, some of the things most important to us have remained the same: local ownership, strong relationships, community involvement and a commitment to giving back to our community.
This year, we have had the privilege of celebrating our 140th anniversary, and on September 9th, we invited the community to celebrate with us.
We couldn’t have asked for a better evening. The weather was perfect, and it was wonderful to see so many familiar faces, families, customers, neighbors and friends come together at Citizens Bank.
Guests enjoyed hot dogs and brats grilled by Benny’s Meat Market, ice cream from Wright Family Farms Ice Cream Truck and live music from the Jolly Huntsman Polka Band. Kids and families enjoyed face painting and balloon animals, and our community also had the opportunity to help create a special Citizens Bank mosaic.
Most importantly, the evening gave us an opportunity to simply spend time together as a community.

Citizens Bank & Trust Co. began serving Hutchinson in 1886 and has remained locally owned and locally led throughout its history.
While the bank has grown and changed along with Hutchinson, our commitment to this community has never changed. Generations of customers have trusted us with their first savings accounts, businesses, farms, homes and financial goals. In return, we have always believed that being a community bank means doing more than banking here. It means investing in the community, volunteering our time and supporting the organizations and projects that help Hutchinson thrive.
Our history is also closely connected to Hutchinson’s history. Our first president, William Harrington, is connected to one of the community’s historic landmarks, the Harrington-Merrill House. In recognition of our 140th anniversary, Citizens Bank & Trust Co. donated $70,000 and the I.J. Burich Family Foundation, Burch Family Foundation and Buzz Burich Family Foundation collectively donated an additional $70,000 to support continued work on the historic home, helping preserve an important piece of Hutchinson’s story for future generations.

Throughout 2026, our employees have also been giving back through volunteer projects and community initiatives as part of our anniversary celebration. It’s one more way we’re honoring where we’ve been while continuing to invest in where our community is going.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate! Seeing our community gathered together was a reminder of what has made 140 years possible. An anniversary like this isn’t simply about how long a business has been around. It’s about the people who have trusted us, worked alongside us, supported us and allowed us to be part of their lives for generations.
We are grateful to our employees, past and present, who have helped build Citizens Bank into what it is today. We are grateful to the local businesses, organizations and community partners who continue to work alongside us. And above all, we are grateful to our customers and the Hutchinson community for 140 years of support.
From all of us at Citizens Bank & Trust Co., thank you for being part of our first 140 years.
