At the I.J. Burich Family Foundation, our mission is to enhance and improve the quality of life in Hutchinson and McLeod County by supporting nonprofits that serve children, the elderly, and other at-risk populations. Through our annual meeting, we saw firsthand how our donations are making a difference in our community.
A Year of Impact
Last year, the Foundation distributed $75,620 in grants to non-profit organizations, funding programs in education, the arts, historic preservation, and public service. We were honored to hear from several non-profits that presented on the impact of our grants. Here’s how the funds have directly benefited local organizations and their programs:
Prince of Peace: Destini Doring and Lisa Hoff shared how they used the funds for education and music therapy for residents. The funds supported a variety of activities including music therapy sessions with a guitar, a yodeler and book talks with a local author. Additionally, participants enjoyed disc golf sessions and rock tumbling. Looking ahead, Prince of Peace has exciting plans to create a raised garden.

McLeod Emergency Food Shelf: Carrie Opheim highlighted how their grant funds provided general support, ensuring the continued operation and outreach of the food shelf. Additionally, the grant helped purchase new signage, fixtures, and coolers, enhancing the efficiency and visibility of their services. These improvements are vital in helping the McLeod Emergency Food Shelf better serve those in need.
Hutchinson Public Library: Elisabeth Kable discussed how the grant funds were used to transform a section of the building into a welcoming teen space. This area now features an assortment of board games, providing a fun, interactive environment where teens can come together to relax and connect. Funds were also put towards revamping the library’s children’s space, creating an even more inviting area for younger readers and families.
It was wonderful to hear firsthand from the non-profit groups how the grants have directly impacted the individuals and communities they serve. We look forward to the work we’ll do in the coming year and the difference we’ll continue to make in our community.
