Agriculture is a vital part of the Hutchinson community, and each year we give thanks to all the farmers who work long hours to produce staple crops. It won’t be long before harvest season arrives and area farmers put in countless hours in the field. The growing season, weather, and a number of other factors influence the short window of opportunity farmers have to get crops safely harvested, transported, and stored before winter arrives.
Long hours in the fields mean farmers don’t always get the breaks they need, so the AgriBusiness Committee at the Hutchinson Chamber started a Farm Fatigue Bag program a few years ago. Citizens Bank and Trust is a proud sponsor of this program that assembles five gallon buckets full of bottled water, sandwiches and snacks, sunscreen and other helpful items aimed at helping farmers stay healthy and safe. Volunteers take turns driving out to the fields around Hutchinson and Glencoe, delivering 300 of these Farm Fatique packages directly to farmers. In many cases, volunteers walk the bucket out into the field to the farmer. This is a very well received program, with many sponsors and volunteers who work hard each fall to help our area farmers. If this is something you think you’d can help, contact the Hutchinson Chamber.
