Junior Achievement is a long-standing program in which community members visit elementary and middle school classrooms to teach students a short curriculum related to the community. The 3rd grade lesson is based on “Our City”. Jessi Wendland has been teaching in 3rd grade classrooms for three years now and recently completed five class sessions in Mrs. Mallak’s class at Park Elementary. The students said this is the favorite part of their school day! The studies included banking, newspapers, restaurants, city zoning, construction, and many new vocabulary words. Here are some pictures of the students in this class:

Featured speakers included: Bob Krogman / Marty Bonnell: “SPCC Compliance and Secondary Containment”, Jack Uldrich: “Foresight 20/20: A Futurist Explores the Trends Transforming Tomorrow’s Agriculture”, and Justin Remus: “The Old, New, and Future of Precision Agriculture”. We had the opportunity of inviting a Hutchinson High School 9th grade student into the bank for a day of job shadowing. Dylan was able to work with personal lenders, mortgage lenders, tellers, credit analyst, commercial lenders, the marketing team, and Scott from the Citizens Insurance Agency. Dylan is part of a Intro to Careers class taught by Mrs. Squier. He spent the day with us moving throughout different departments to learn what a typical day looks like at a community bank. His favorite part was lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings with some of the staff!

Today at the Social Media Breakfast, CB&T employees Jessi Wendland and Mandy Baldry were part of the discussion panel on how to get better results using Facebook tools. Beth Gasser (Vivid Image), Jen Epper (Buffalo Wild Wings – Mankato and Hutchinson) and Kurt Thompson (Southwest Initiative Foundation) were also part of the discussion board. Some of the topics discussed were what tools you use to better manage your facebook page, the goals of your fan page, how to use paid ad options and what is your favorite feature on Facebook. It was great to get new ideas from other businesses on how they have made their fan page a success. The next Social Media Breakfast is December 27, 2012 which will explore the tools and techniques used to plan your social media marketing in 2013. “Like” us on Facebook and to find out what all the Buzz is about!
